I just realized I forgot to make a forum for discussing this tale... so here it is.

Just finished reading Haunted and it’s 5:30 in the morning here in the UK. Dare I go to bed now.
Great story you built the tension up slowly enough that by the time they got in the house I was totally hooked.

I really liked the way you escalated the tension of the story. It started very slowly, almost a laid back feel to it, but by the last third, I found myself tearing through the story. It felt like my reading pace was matching the panic the characters felt.
Was the swirling dust his friends' spirits? It felt like the dust was somewhat keeping him from letting Heather take over, by also giving many similar warnings that she might be giving him, but with a less helpless/inevitable tone to it.
I liked the detail where the other ghosts aimed to kill off the other girls as quickly as possible to deny Heather a body, and that act worked against both them and later Heather herself.

Oh and
Nowhereville
is sort of my reaction to this story. Not as well done... But give it time. My writing that is.

In order - thanks, that was intended; I've done a similar pacing experiment on a Whatif, and will likely do more in the future.
Yes.
Not all the ghosts were on the same page; they were kind of like humans that way.
