  • Typo: the first heading claims the story is in 2017. However, Gen2 so far takes place in 2016.

  • Recovering overdue books at Whateley likely involved giant robots, or maybe an orbital strike.

What about an orbital strike from a giant robot. A giant orbital robot strike, if you will.

Exploding bunnies! Fun for the whole family (except for any pet rabbits)!

Smokey continues to be the best character.

  • Great story with lots of little magicy background stuff. My only complaint is sometimes it was very difficult figuring out who was speaking. The first section could be anyone, there isn't really anything to ID the 'narrator.'

I think it was stated to be Petshop, aka: Jobe if she were a member of Wondercute.

    Yep, Petshop.

"I'm looking for invisible bunnies," Michelle answered, feeling just a little self-conscious.

"My RA told me about them," Meow Mix said. "But she said that they don't really exist..."

"Of course they exist," Petshop blurted out, giving the cat girl an offended look. "I spent a whole month figuring out how to make them invisible..."

Michelle gasped and stared at Petshop. "YOU made them?"

"Yep," Petshop responded, looking quite proud. "They were so cute before they turned invisible... But they're still really soft, and cuddly, and oh so huggable..."

This is because it's a Neo story, and his to tell.

  • Bear in mind that the iron issue, so far, is for the Sidhe (and possible some other in the 5 fold courts) and hellspawn.

If it was a simple a thing as iron disrupting magic, all those anti-mage teams would be wearing chain mail and be invulnerable - which they aremt.

Unless it's shown otherwise, all Morgana's stories are in 1st person dialog.

That scene, though, and Tia's reaction. I think I managed to cackle quietly enough to not bug the neighbors, but it was 3:30 AM, so I'm not certain.

Yeah, but I understand Valentine's point. Actually, two points:
    1. It isn't obvious at the start of the story that it IS, in fact, a Morgana story. I took a few paragraphs to get it. Keep in mind that with the large number of authors, it is sometimes hard to keep track of which author owns which character. Not to mention that sometimes authors will write stories focusing on different characters than their "main" one.
    2. Yes, the story is first-person from Morgana's POV... except when it isn't, and shifts suddenly to a third-person omniscient POV showing what other characters are doing elsewhere. And then the characters approach Morgana and the POV shifts back to FP.
Shifting POVs is not a sin, but the lack of demarcation for the changes is annoying. No, you don't have to add a subheading; but at least a blank line to break the flow and signal the POV change would help.

  • The Whateley Library has its own version of the Dewey system, interesting.

My impression is that specialized numbering systems are pretty common for libraries with specific focuses. It becomes a pain when all your texts have the same number because Dewey lacked the granularity to distinguish between the different types of cancer, after all.

  • ^^^ - Uhh... According to the previous White Lady, which I didn't click on until now:

    whateleyacademy.net/index.php/9-original...-imp-probable-part-2

Iron disrupts many types of magic

I wouldn't say 5-fold and Hellspawn magic as "Many types"?? Or is the White Lady massively misinformed??

But, on physical weakness, then I'll agree??

If this Michelle is Path Of Cute Michelle... A.k.a Twitch... So, she's interested in boys? ... Well, no reason a pre-teen can't... I really shouldn't be surprised, Given Call Of The Waters (Fanfic). *facepalm*.

But is she "developed" enough to attract attention in that way? Like, I'd have expected her age to be the first retort, but hey, he's under pressure??

  • Bear in mind there is a huge difference between iron blocking magic, and iron affecting magic.

Look at what iron does to a magnetic compass, for example.

  • Being a nerd, I have gone over a wide variety of topics in my day. In some traditions iron is said to negate magic. In some it is said to affect magic (for both good and ill). In some it is said to have no impact as all.

It even gets to the point that the source or condition of the iron matters. Meteorite iron was held to have special magical properties in many traditions for example. Some traditions define "cold iron" specifically as unworked or meteorite iron. While others use the term for any iron. Some even differentiate between iron and steel.

Getting more into the legends involved, iron was said to be useful for repelling witches in some cultures... But not just any iron. It was either a specially made amulet to protect the wearer from magic or an iron knife buried under the door to prevent the witch from entering a house.

An example many people today would find familiar is that of the horseshoe. There are two basic traditions there. In one, the horseshoe is placed points up so the good luck does not run out. In the other tradition, the shoe is placed points down so that is pours good luck onto the house.

Then there is the repelling aspect of iron. The Celtic lands seem to favor iron as a way to ward off faeries, spirits, witches and various malevolent beings. Surrounding a cemetery with an iron fence was said to contain the souls of the dead, but using iron amulets and insignia in graves was reputed to drive the spirit away (and no one wants a lost spirit walking around)... In the middle east, iron was reputed to be effective against genies, but not against some other threats.

So, for some magic users, iron (in general or a specific type) would be a good choice, while for others it would not. Heck, various magical traditions have been using iron for eons now, but just which ones it works for and which ones it disrupts must remain an unknown. Particularly when one considers how many forms of magic are out there in our world and how many more must be present in the Whateley Universe.

  • Looks at MM2's reply and nods. Then smiles innocently.

Morgana's use of iron and the way it affects (or doesn't affect) her is influenced by her origin. There.

Now, I got to get changed and go do some painting, then I need to get a list of stuff for fixing my forge, got to get it operational again. I only work with hot iron, cold iron disrupts my rhythm when playing the anvil.

  • Good to see more of Morgana and the rest, for sure. As of this part I am officially designating Morgana as "team mother", and there's nothing you can do to stop me. :-p

I'm also getting a feeling for the team as a whole. As a comparison, where in Gen 1 the Kimbas were known as the crazies (and earned that title, honestly), I think that this lot will, for the most part, be labeled as villainous elements. As far as the rumour mill is concerned, we already have the head of a crime family and an MCO plant. Beyond that, the rumour mill could easily pick up on Morgana the "demon summoner" or Erica, "literal Nazi".

Sure, it's a big group and not everybody within could pick up such a notorious reputation at the school, but reputation by association will stand, and it doesn't need to stand true for them all regardless, due to the prior statements about them all being associated more loosely than TK.

Looking forward to seeing continuations of Bianca, Tanya, Tia and of course Morgana (not to mention those we've seen little of in the way of perspectives so far)! :)

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • They also have
    • A trolling goddess with a comically serious paladin.
    • The Witch Queen's son with a pet dragon.
    • An idol singer. (You just know she's evil.)
    • A reality TV star.
    • A blue skinned space babe with who knows what in her pockets.
    • A wannabe detective who's not very good.

Did I miss any from M3 other than what Ametros included?

Overall, the still seem less evil than Kimba:
    • A drill sergeant.
    • A hyperactive fight seeker.
    • An elven queen who has not historically gotten along well with humans.
    • A multi-billionaire from one of the most well known mutant-hating families on earth.
    • An 8 billion year old alien superweapon.
    • A girl who was mistaken for a demon on at least 2 occasions.

Insanity: for when normal just isn't interesting enough.

  • I think it is better framed as a bunch of failures, pretenders, or disappointments:

(Arranged by roommates or cottage mates!)
A cheating bad boyfriend who got what he deserved
A goddess who faints and burns out
A mafia princess who can't defend her family (3rd string White Lady)
A test subject and cult battery
An escaped test subject and suckup
    A weakling
A squib who lucked out (and a villian's son! Gasp!)
A literal monster and reality TV star (not part of M3)
A wannabee detective who isn't very good
    A thug (who is gay)
    Another weakling
A literal Nazi who is pretending to be the successor to a title she doesn't deserve in many ways.
    A failure, copying her mother
And a nobody pretty who hates those with GSD

Oh, and by the way, they were all involved in that big incident in New York that delayed everyone in transit and involved a whole bunch of superheroes and villains (only two of the above were).

All mischaracterizations, and often horribly so, some even mirrored as internalized self-esteem issues, but that's what makes them so interesting. M3 is sitting at an upperclassman table, seen every day, has a ton of enemies badmouthing each of them for the silliest reasons. Every training team is going to be eager to beat some of them up and prove that they're just pretenders, or see if they live up to their fake reputation.

Do we have a codename for Vic yet? I would prefer to create the page under codename if available.

  • The point that others see M3 quite differently from the way they see themselves is quite correct.
There's also the difference between the way friends (or at least, casual aquaintances) see them, and the stories put about by enemies and people who just like spreading gossip.

I do hope to show some of this when the storyline pernits :)

People seem quite relaxed about Morgana explosively disassembling a cute bunny wabbit.

Is this because you are all violent, or hate bunnies, or is there some other reason?

Unless I really missed something, she did not do it purposefully. Now if she goes around blowing up cute invisible (?) bunnies, and then eating them I might have a problem.

BTW how can something invisible be cute?

Morgana's spell was interfered with, so I'm more one to hold out hope that Hermione and Estelle come up with a better self-nomination for the Darwin Awards.

As far as bunnies go, they might not be kosher, but otherwise can be considered literally fair game.

  • From my perspective, we've already been told that Morgana needs special attention and tutoring from Eldritch at controlling her strangely sourced abilities and capacity.

The bunny was just an example of how tenuous her control really is, even if someone else forced it.

But really, I think we've all been desensitized to horrible bunny violence thanks to Watership Down (1978).

To Astrodragon, in this case I accept her lack of intent. She didn't intend to flash fry the rabbit.
As far as catching them to cook and eat? To each his own, if I have a chance I will. though I really prefer domestic rabbit to wild rabbit. Too much chance of the wild rabbit eating stuff that leaves the rabbit with strong tastes that aren't necessarily complimentary.

  • Personally, due to the aforementioned circumstances surrounding the event (such as it being accidental, with external interference), I'm significantly more concerned about Tia's reaction to it, and if it, on top of all her other troubles, will cause something - like driving a wedge between her and Morgana.

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • Yeah, we really don't see much except Morgana's view of Tia's reaction, so we don't know what effect the accident has had on her and whether or not it will affect a change in their relationship, especially since Tia needs all the help and support she can get to keep Jamie from being a total menace to the point that Tia ends up pushing up daisies.
    So what was Tia's reaction?
Was she internally horrified, but masking?
Is she terrified to show that she was horrified?
Will she try to withdraw from her association with Morgana and the rest of M3?
Are there any questions I missed?

  • Personally, I blame Hermione for the exploding bunny and am looking forward to her eventually getting what she deserves. Hopefully, it will include Petshop finding out that she had a part in the exploding bunny fiasco.

And just what might Petshop do to Hermione? A devisor horny dog that follows her everywhere and humps her leg every time she stops? Something worse? Some sort of insect that eats only her clothes so she can never ever wear any clothing of any kind? Don't irritate the biodevisor! She might decide you'd make a good pet!

You missed out Tia's reaction to finding out Bianca, Erica and Morgana are looking into Jamie and what she's been up to, when she told then not to. :)

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

  • My reaction when the bunny exploded was, "OH NO! That poor bunny! This is why you don't fuck around with people while they cast magic, dammit! That poor thing!" Then we saw Tia's reaction to it, and I cracked up.

  • I saw Monty Python and the Holy Grail... I don't trust cute, fuzzy bunnies. even if they are normally invisible. My complaint was that she over-cooked the Rabbit Fricassee, but I blame the interfering twerps for that, too many cooks as the saying goes.

Pretty much my complaint too! And why should you trust those cute fuzzy little bunnies? If they had opposable thumbs they'd rule the world!

You appear to be confusing bunnies with cats.

No cats already do, they are effective manipulators of humans so that they dont need thumbs,

  • "In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this" - Terry Pratchett

"I like a cat because it does not disguise its selfishness with any flattering hypocrisies. Its attachment is not to yourself, but to your house. Let it but have food, and a warm lair among the embers, and it heeds not at whose expense. Then it has the spirit to resent aggression. You shall beat your dog, and he will fawn upon you; but a cat never forgives : it has no tender mercies, and it torments before it destroys its prey." - (Letitia Elizabeth Landon, Ethel Churchill (or The Two Brides) (1837), Vol. I. Chapter 1)

    Take your pick...

See the cats are open about ruling the world.
The dogs? Don't worry about that, if they haven't figured out that omega humans aren't their alphas they probably aren't a threat. But rabbits? Now it is the quiet ones who hide in the shadows that you really have to fear!

  • no picking on my spirit animal...

Cats are easy to defeat. just give them catnip, or throw some yarn balls in front of them.
Dogs? point them at the intoxicated cats, or throw a stick.

Well, I'm sure if she is channeling any bunny it is Babs Bunny! And while Babs isn't quite as aggressive as Bugs Bunny, she's no slouch either...

  • Really enjoyed this story, good to have some more Gen 2 development particularly from Morgana’s point of view :) Title brought back some other memories for me :)
I thought you did a particularly good job of writing about the main Gen 2 group surrounding Morgana in a natural fluid way, plus the magic descriptions were very believable imo.
Looking forward to More of your work B)
