  • Just a quick question, with Gen 1: year 2 well underway, what are the intentions for orphaned characters tied to other main story arcs? There seems to be an absence in the universe for the characters of Whisper, Josie and Ecilia; probably a few others. These are not like the lit chicks who could be off screen. These characters have connections to others that should be explained. Whisper has connections to TK, Sara and the Grunts; while Josie and Ecilia have the math department and are involved with the extra dimensional. It seems Kayda would have some involvement if nothing else. I understand the pitfalls of authors going silent; however, could we get a tidbit or an aside that explains their presence or absence. Thanks

  • So far as I know, Whisper will be here eventually, though I haven't heard from the author just what the intention is with regard to her. I know she won't be a Posie.

Whisper isn't all that integral to the Grunts. That's simply the JROTC unit's combat sim team. Members come and go every year. She's never yet been a member of that team, and doesn't have to become a member. Likewise, she's no more a member of Team Kimba any more than Nikki's brother Troy is. As to Sara, "All lines are currently busy at this time. Please try again later."

Josie and Ecila are off doing their own individualized learning plan in an effort to see whether Josie's or Rev. Englund's mind breaks first. Other than it being mentioned that Ecila is attached to the mathematics department, we see more interaction between Kayda and the department, which still isn't much. Again, we hit on the gulf between human/mutant/whatever and Mythos: Ecila and Josie (and surely Sara) are working on the opposite shore of that gulf from Kayda.

As far as extradimensional experience goes, Kayda's barely begun her shamanic training. She'd benefit more from the resources available in the Mystic Arts and Psychic Arts departments. (The Workshop likely has a number of others who are familiar with accessing other planes as a "science hero" or mad physicist)

    News to us...
    .

Kristin Darken wrote: We've added the Gen 2 storyline, we've brought Elrod, Morpheus, Sleethr and Phoenix-Spiritus as active Gen 1 writers (Phoenix taking the reins on Hank to give him his own author for the first time ever) and we have our eye on a couple more candidates for filling our ranks a bit more.

    Last we heard...

  • Sleethr did, initiaily have an intent to let us canonize Whisper without personally committing to canon status. He changed his mind when he discovered how much more difficult that made the process of getting the story into canon form and decided to take me up on the full invitation. It doesn't serve a huge purpose, obviously, if he's not writing anything anyway. It isn't an absolute requirement that things that a canon author writes automatically be canon themselves, anyway. We write Library stuff. We can write WhatIF's... canon authors write Micro-scenes that are non-canon all the time.

As far as these 'orphaned' characters go... they, like Team Kimba... are present and doing things. They may even be doing things that WOULD be cool to know about if someone had a camera pointed at them to see it happening. Sadly, the authors who would point that camera are off doing something else... if you want stories from them or about those characters; convince those authors to come back and pick up a pen. It's not like any author has a contractual obligation to keep telling a character's story. We don't even have the ability to offer them anything for their return except reader appreciation.
