    Yes. Anonymous, or psuedoanonymous, works are protected for 95 years after publication, or 120 years after creation iirc.

    That changes if the author is identified to the normal timespan.

    The murky part is if Jade, Thurban, etc, predate Whateley.

    If they do, then they are Bab's, if they don't, then they are the collectives.

    If the collectives, then they can create more Jade stories. (As indeed they have) But then the issue here has been more of a moral one than a legal one.

    Of course the big assumption there is that the world, and characters, are Joint Authorship.

    Interesting side note. Co-authors, ie: the collective, can't sue each other for breach of copyright.
