  • A group of relatives of mine are going to England as tourists in a couple months They are going to stay mostly in London for a couple weeks, but intend to do a number of day trips to reasonably nearby places such as Dover.
They are planning on purchasing local SIMs for their phones so they have Internet and, well, the ability to phone one another.
Since none of us knows much about European phone operators, I would like to ask our Brit friends for advice. Any operators have known problems? Any prepaid/pay-as-your-go plans which are particularly attractive?

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • The main providers are pretty competitive with pay as you go, I would suggest an internet search.
They are everywhere, so no real difficulty finding one.

You can also get a cheap pay as you go phone from the supermarkets, which you can topup as needed.

Which one is cheapest will depend on how long they stay and how much they intend to use the phone. Bear in mind international calls are still pricey from a mobile.

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

  • Also, a quick side note from a Tech Head, make sure the phones they have will support the LTE frequencies that the carrier they are looking at uses. You have to get the specific model number of your phone and research the LTE frequencies the antenna inside will support because if you antenna can not support the carries frequencies then you will not have full function on the phone. Apple, Samsung, LG, etc... provide the info on there websites.
