  • I've posted before about this (well, in reference to Stalwart, and a character from this abridged series), but I just realised I never provided this website with a permanent discussion about the series itself. Sword Art Online abridged is a parody series from Something Witty Entertainment based off the 'successful' (note the quotations there) anime Sword Art Online. The series is both a comedic commentary on gaming, and also a fix fic and a abridgement of the original anime itself. Now, below is a quick synopsis of the source material's plot, which I have put in spoilers to avoid ruining it for those who haven't watched it (believe me, while SAO is a cornerstone of modern Anime, it isn't really all that great (full of plot holes, sexist writing, ignorant writing, flimsy explanations and supporting characters and a total lack of any resolution to the first plot for the audience), but it is still a great watch, and you should try and watch the original at the first opportunity. Knowledge of the original isn't required to watch the abridged, but is recommended, as you should see what a mess SAO is before watching SAOA).
Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ]

The abridged series fixes a lot of the flaws, and also tells a compelling new story. It is avaliable on youtube. Here is the first episode:

  • SAO Abridged was good. It actually convinced me to download WoW, with SAOA playing while it downloaded. Abridged!Kirito is so relatable... is something I should probably feel bad for saying. I haven't seen the original, but I have enjoyed watching the many videos complaining about it. Should I sit down and watch it? It is on Netflix, which makes things easy.

I showed it to my friend after getting back from the new Jumanji and the 2 are surprisingly similar.

Before I watched SAOA, I managed to find a pretty good indie action RPG with a VR MMO setting. Naturally it gets a little meta at times and you have to distinguish between NPC-NPCs, and player-NPCs. And by the way, your party member has a group project to work on, so she can't play all the time. I would really enjoy seeing a DeathBattle or other crossover between it and SAO.

Insanity: for when normal just isn't interesting enough.
All ideas free to use. You can probably make better use of them than me.
