  • I've added a voting feature on stories. I'm not sure if it works for people who aren't logged in... I DO know that it won't let me vote more than once on a given story... and I'm hoping that is tied to the IP address (which would lock guests into a single vote too, if guests are allowed to vote at all). The best part is that it would allow for a more reasonable indication of hits/tracking and opinion. As we can see both the total number of votes and the average vote made. We'll give it a try... see how it works. If you all vote my stories at 1 star, I'm turning it back off. ;)

  • Thanks.

  • Are the results going to be publicly visible, or just for the staff to analyse?

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

  • I'm not big on online voting of anything, and I tend to read stories offline, therefore... I don't really see myself doing much voting. So this won't affect me much one way or another. But...

IP address aren't quite fixed for most people. I do know that my fibre Internet reboots midnight sharp every night, and it sometimes the DHCP server will give me a new address. My old cable Internet also tended to change IPs periodically. And that's for fixed connections. People on mobile Internet change IPs several times an hour, if they are moving.

Another problem of relying on IPs is that sometimes you have more than one user under the same IP -- say, behind the same firewall.

  • I suspect it'll pan out about as well as the Kudo's do on BCTS. About 1 in 100 reads will garner a vote (if it syncs up with BCTS results)... given that the comment section at the foot of the stories gets about 1 in 600... and the forums get about 1 in 600 (with about a 50% overlap between the comment posts and the forums posts)... it might have some value. If not, *shrug* it doesn't cost us anything but the time it took me to set it up.

  • Other then the story page itself, is there anywhere else the ratings show up?

Also, just because I thought it was funny, "Heaven and Hell: The Recruiter" now has 666 views

  • Hey, how do you know if the people doing the rating are not equating the number of the stars with the rate? Like, 1 = 1st rate, 5 = 5th rate...

Dan, your post gets one star. I found it confusing; I mean, who are you to say what I understand or not?!? Maybe I'm drunk, you ever think of that?!?!?

I agree. But if you did? These jokers would rate the 'nice' story with 1 star.

I'm looking forward to people seeing/reacting to the ranks and rank graphics above Master... Dom's only a couple hundred out from it... most people are still seven or eight hundred away.
